There are many short term and long term impacts that victims of crime suffer. The short term effects that Harper suffered from would be her fear, which resulted in her not getting sleep and various other things. Because she was not getting sleep, she got fired from her job as she couldn't function properly. She always had the lights on at night, which caused a strain on her relationship and ended up losing her boyfriend from her complete change in personality and routine. She could not have a healthy relationship with her boyfriend. She was barely eating and was always afraid.  She had to relive the experience over and over from having to give her statement to the police and her memories. Harper would sleep with her running shoes at at night as well. She cut her hair and moved away, her lifestyle was definitely changed in a major way.
The long term affects that Harper suffered would be her trust issues and personality changes. She was very guarded and didn't let people in. She acted like she didn't care about anything and as if she was completely moved on from what happened to her when really it is something you never truly can get over. She felt like since nothing could change what happened to her that she has no obligation to help other people by identifying her offender.

This article is about a man who was robbed and had his life threatened. He was tied up but managed to get away safely, the perpetrators were never caught. The effects this must have had on his life are terrible. He must be afraid to invite anyone back to his house. Maybe scared they will return to his house. They did threaten his life so I imagine he is worried about his safety. The fact that they haven't been caught must make him very scared that they will come back and kill him thinking he has enough information about them to get them caught.

I feel as if the government has set very good protocols that victims must go through after an incident, like the counselling and the change of locks payed for by the goverment for rape victims. I'm not sure what else we can do to make the impact less, as we cant stop crime from happening completely and we already have help offered to victims.
